35 Years - That's A Long Time!

Marriage is HARD WORK!  After 35 years, don't you think we deserve to put our feet up and relax? - Taken at The Sagamore Inn, Bolton Landing, New York

Today, June 4th, Bill and I celebrate 35 years of marriage.  And yes, that's a LONG time!  Every year as our anniversary approaches, we start looking at each other in disbelief.  We were barely 21 years old and hadn't a clue what we were doing.  We were different as night and day.   In retrospect, it's probably a good thing we didn't have a clue what we were doing or chances are, we might've missed the last 35 years.  Easy?  Never!  If you are a starry eyed youngin' out there contemplating marriage and think it's all going to be storybook, you'd best think again.  Life isn't "storybook" and neither are relationships, marriage or otherwise.  Has it been worth it?   You better believe it!  I can't imagine what my life would've been like if I hadn't walked down that aisle 35 years ago and said, "I do!"

One of my favorite posts is the one I wrote two years ago on our 33rd anniversary so thought I'd link back to it as well as the one written last year on our 34th anniversary.  We don't really have any special celebration plans.   We are always traveling when June 4th rolls around and I think we both consider our Summer Adventures both anniversary and birthday gifts to each other.   I mean, what more could he ask for, than to spend seven weeks with me, 24 hours a day, seven days a week?  LOL!   Before we left, his mom gave us money to enjoy a nice anniversary dinner, so we'll find a special place to do that before the end of the trip.  I think we are both holding out for a lobster dinner in Maine.

Happy Anniversary, Mr. B - After 35 years, I think I'll keep you!

It finally stopped raining here in Meredith, New Hampshire sometime during the night on Saturday.  But behind the rain came much cooler temperatures and a fierce north wind.  We've fought with a bit of discouragement because we just haven't been able to spend much time outside exploring.  The discouragement comes from the fact that the entire week looks horrible weatherwise.  Not a single day of sun and most days with a 40-50% change of rain.  Will we go with it??   Of course, we will.  Every trip involves a few days of disappointing weather conditions.  They just don't usually come in spans of entire weeks!  Fortunately, we have an absolutely delightful oasis to return to at each day's end.  That always makes things better.  If there weren't so many things we were looking forward to doing while here, we'd be content to just sit here reading and gazing out over Lake Winnipesaukee.

Sunday afternoon, we took a drive around Squam Lake searching for locations where the movie, "On Golden Pond" was filmed in 1981.   Most of the locations are carefully hidden and not easily found, but the marina/dock used in a couple of scenes is the Squam Lake Boat Livery and is easy to recognize from the movie.  Looks just like it did!  Apparently, there are charter boat tours that will take you out on lake cruises showing you all the locations from the movie that are only able to be seen from the water.  The one we found was $250 for a two-hour cruise.   That's not exactly in the budget, so much as we'd like to see the house used in the movie among other things, we'll just have to know that we were very close today as we drove around via the road!!

Some exercise was badly needed after yesterday's total lack of physical activity, so we decided to take a walk around the village of Meredith.  That worked for awhile, but it was so windy, we gave up and headed back to our house.

Today's plan includes the circle driving tour around Lake Winnipesaukee with lots of stops and a short hike.  Let's hope for the best!

Thanks for reading!
